Installing A Hot Tub: 6 Pro Tips

Now that you have decided on installing a hot tub in your home to make it more relaxing, all you need to do is find the best one to purchase. Soon you can enjoy the benefits that a hot tub provides. Installing a hot tub can be tricky, especially if you choose to do it yourself without the help of a professional. If you are installing a permanent hot tub, there can be additional steps that you need to take as this is a full-fledged construction project. You may have to get building permits and have an electrician do some rewiring to guarantee your home can handle this addition. Here are six pro tips to think about when installing a hot tub:

Choose a Location

The first thing you will need to do is choose a location for your new hot tub. You may have a few areas around your home to choose from, but it is crucial to make sure there is enough space for the actual hot tub and enough space to maneuver around it to perform maintenance. You will also need to check for nearby outlets as you will need a power source. A good rule of thumb is to leave two feet around each side of the hot tub for entering and exiting, pulling back the cover, and performing maintenance.

Prepare the Location

Once you have chosen the location, you need to get it ready to install a hot tub. Make sure the area has a solid level foundation as a hot tub can be very heavy. You may want to look into using spa pads to make installation easier. They can be removed at a later date if need be. Before installing the hot tub, you need to ensure that the area is clean and free of debris and can withstand the weight of the hot tub with water and people in it.

Plan the Route From Truck to the Location

Now that your location is prepped and ready to go, it is time to have the hot tub delivered. There is one pro tip that many people do not consider. You should plan the route you will need to take to get the hot tub from the delivery truck to the installation location. You should check the width of the hot tub to guarantee you have room to move it through any rooms or gates to get it to the final location. Also check the weight and make sure you have the materials and help necessary to transport it.

Hooking Up the Hot Tub

After the hot tub is in your desired location, you will need to hook it up to a power source. Any standard 110-volt outlet will work for a Plug-N-Play spa. All you have to do is fill it up with a garden hose, plug it in and enjoy.

If you install a 220-volt hot tub, you will need an electrician for installation.

Prepare for Usage

You are in the home stretch now. Before filling and plugging it in, make sure that all the jets and knobs are in the correct position and open the air valves. Next, you will fill the hot tub with a garden hose. Once the water has reached a few inches above the highest jet you can plug it in. Wait for the water to heat up (for a 110v it takes about 24-hours), mix in your chemicals, and then hop on in and start relaxing!

Pro Tip: It is recommended that all spas are filled by running the hose through the filter.
